Save Gas!
In these times of high gasoline prices, here are some tips on how to save gas and money and to do your part in deceasing gas consumption, reducing gas prices, and reducing our dependence on foreign oil:
If you:
You can save:
Why:
Slow down
$.21 to $.71/gallon
For each 5 mph over 60, you pay an extra $.15/gallon
Drive consistently
$.15 to $1.01/gallon
Speeding, braking, and quick acceleration waste gas.
Get a tune-up
$.13/gallon
Poorly tuned engines burn more gas.
Replace dirty filters
up to $.31/gallon
Dirt, dust, and bugs cause your engine to work harder.
Properly inflate your tires
up to $.09/gallon
Underinflated tires cause more road resistance. (And they wear down and have to be replaced more quickly).
Use the right oil grade
$.03 to $.06/gallon
The manufacturer's recommended grade of motor oil and one labeled "energy conserving" will reduce friction in the engine.
Do all of the above
up to $2.31/gallon
...for all of the reasons listed above

“History of the Point” Video
The "History of the Point" video is now available on a DVD. The original tape has deteriorated a bit and will continue to do so. The DVD is not as sharp as the original tape was; however, it is satisfactory for play on a computer. Lynn Boynton has offered to make the copies but will need your order before he does that. The cost is $15.00 plus shipping. Lynn will have them at the Point or will ship them as the need arises. All proceeds will go to the LPSA. Contact Lynn for your DVD.

Point Photo Books
The book, Picture The Point by Charles W. Thompson, filled with full-color Point photos in all seasons, is still available for yourself or for gifts. The 40-page, 10" x 8.25" landscape format hardcover book with a full-color glossy dust jacket costs $49.95. (See photos of the cover and one interior spread below.) Please order from the link above, or contact Chuck for further details and to order.
He has been doing additional research, gathering new materials, and is "tweaking" another new book, History of The Point and Environs, which will be an 8.25" x 10.75" hardcover book with glossy cover, consisting of approximately 200 pages filled with LPS, Benona Township, Oceana County, and Michigan history, timelines, photos, text, memorabilia, charts, graphs, statistics, and other relevant information. Please contact Chuck if you're interested in receiving details about the new book when it is finalized.
When he asked others about mentioning his new books he was told, “Yes, many Pointers are going to be interested. How are they going to be able to get them if they don't know about them?” Hence, this information is included here.
For additional information or to order, please order from the link above or contact Chuck Thompson:

If you're interested in saving energy and saving money on your electric bill, you might want to replace your current standard light bulbs (shown on the left above) with new energy-saving bulbs. (One example of a GE 60 watt-equivalent bulb is shown above right.)
The energy-savers come in various wattages, including the light equivalents of 60 and 100 watt bulbs. The energy-saver bulb shown has the same light output as a 60 watt bulb, but it uses only 13 watts - just 22% of the energy and cost of using a standard bulb - and is said to last five times longer.
If you replace many of your standard bulbs with energy-savers, you could save a significant amount of energy and expense over the years!
